DWDM
Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) is an optical multiplexing technology used to increase bandwidth over existing fiber networks – using light as a carrier enabling much higher data transmission rates over greater distances and with lower losses compared to electrical signals.
DWDM can handle higher speed protocols up to 100Gbps per channel, making it a more suitable for higher speed protocols.
DWDM works by combining and transmitting multiple signals simultaneously at different wavelengths on the same fiber. The technology creates multiple virtual fibers, thus multiplying the capacity of the physical medium.
